Funeral Services for Mr. Jimmy Harvey age 40 of Americus, GA will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Roosevelt Key officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

 

Mr. Jimmy Harvey was born on June 26, 1971 in Americus, GA to the late Rubin Harvey and Mary Alice Harvey. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age he joined the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ulysses Brown. He was once employed as a production Assembler at Cooper Lighting in Albany, GA also at Woodgrain Molding and Cooper Lighting in Americus. Mr. Harvey died on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Phoebe–Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA.

 

He leaves to cherish is memory his mother, Mary Alice Harvey; three daughters: Laquida Harvey, Deundra Denmark both of Americus, GA and Nzali Harvey of Jacksonville, FL.; one sister, Willie Mae Mitchell of Atlanta, GA; four brothers: Ruben Harvey, Jr. of Chester, PA, Michael Harvey, David Harvey, and Alfonso Ross all of Americus; four loving grandchildren: Harmony Parker, Zachary Denmark, Joshua Parker and Chrishyia Howard; three devoted aunts: Lula Mae Waters and Varness Sutton both of Americus and Barbara Ross of Detroit, MI; a devoted uncle, Moses Ross of Buena Vista, GA and a devoted god-mother, Elsie (L.C) Denmark of Americus. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

 

 

 

Funeral services for Mr. Sean G. Scott of Leesburg, GA

will be Wed. August 31, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, GA. Burial will follow at the Green Grove Bapt. Church Cemetery in Smithville, GA.

Sean G. Scott was born on December 19, 1989 in Albany, GA to Sedrick Scott and Leah McIntosh. He was educated in the Lee County School System until 2005 where he was an outstanding athlete. He then moved to Florida where he attended and graduated from Hudson High School. There Sean continued his excellence in athletics as a star Linebacker and Running Back on the football team. Sean set his High School’s single season rushing record and was named Player of the Week several times during his playing days. He attended Green Grove Baptist Church in Smithville, Georgia. He was employed by Inglett & Stubbs Electrical Construction Company as an apprentice electrician. Sean died tragically on Thursday, August 25th at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center.

Funeral service for Mrs. Eddie Mae Cooper Henderson

will be Saturday September 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Old Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Christopher McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow at the Cooper Family Cemetery.

Eddie Mae Cooper was born on October 30, 1938 to the late Leaston S. Cooper Sr. and Elnora Westbrook Cooper of Leslie, GA. Eddie received her primary education in Sumter County, Georgia. In the summer of 1958, she met and fell in love with Donell Henderson. They were wed and then moved to Miami, Florida, where she became a seamstress and homemaker. To this union four children were born. Eddie Mae was a very ambitious woman. She attended Dorset Skill Center, where she earned a trade in clerical work. She later attended Miami Dade College, where she earned a Degree in Social Work. Eddie was always helping others, which led to her career change. She met and overcame many challenges and found another calling in a different line of work at the Opa Locka Public Works Department. She was later promoted to the Opa Locka Police Department, where she worked as a Property Specialist until her retirement.

Eddie Mae wore many hats and was a loving, caring and God fearing woman. She formed a relationship with God early in life and accepted him as her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She joined the New Pineville Baptist Church in Leslie, GA. Her most precious gift was the birth of her four children, whom she taught good morals, sound values, respect and self worth. Above all she taught them to love God and brought them up in his admonition. She taught them to aim high and that all things are possible with God in their lives. Eddie also had a passion for sewing. She made gowns for proms and weddings and loved sewing for her family. She also loved to cook and of course we all LOVED her sweet potato pies the most.. She also loved poetry and music and shared this passion with her children. Hearing familiar sounds of Otis Redding, Marvin Oaye, Al Green and the Staple singers to name a few, but her favorite were the sounds of Mahalia Jackson and Pastor Shirley Caesar. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Miami, Florida under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Jackson, where she attended regularly until her illness. Eddie Mae was called home on August 22, 2011. She was met by her Mother Elnora, Father Leaston Sr., brothers, Joe, Leaston Jr., Eugene and Nathaniel; Sisters: Annie Clara, Sarah and Gertrude; all of whom preceded her in death.
She leaves precious memories to her four children: Ronnie, Milton, Melvin Henderson (Arlington, GA); Daughter, Gwendolyn Henderson Robinson (Miami, FL); Seven grandchildren: Garrett Robinson, Corey J. Robinson, Milton Henderson, Jr., Marcus Robinson, Tyshia Graham Henderson, Camekia Douglas Henderson, D”ynia Henderson, all of Miami, FL; One great grandson, Master Julius A. Scott, and Tyshia. Six sisters: Nadine(John) King, Smithville, GA, Vera (Arie) Arney, Dallas, GA, Rena Cooper, Conyers, GA, Barbara Linnear, Eartha (Johnny) Robertson, Augusta, GA and Irene (AL) Rutherford, Americus, GA; Eight Brothers: Willie Cooper, Eddie Lee(her twin) (Effie) Cooper, Arthur (Carolyn) Cooper, Leslie, GA, Reubin (Vivian) Cooper, Ceasar Cooper, Miami, FL, Tony(Amanda) Cooper, Americus, GA, Thomas Cooper (Angellette), Fayetteville, N.C., Royzell (Shirley) Cooper, Vienna, GA; Sisters-in-law, Minnie Cooper, Tacoma. Funeral services for Mr. Charles J. Dunn of Ashby Street Americus, GA

will be Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Power of Faith Deliverance Church on Ashby Street in Americus, Georgia with Prophetess Linda Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Charles Jerome Dunn was born on March 18, 1961 to Mr. Eddie Lee Dunn Jr. and Mrs. Brownie Davis Dunn. He received his education in the Sumter County school system. Mr. Charles Dunn was employed by Simplex Nails of Americus, Georgia for many years. He was preceded in death by his brother Mr. Willie Lee Dunn. On Tuesday, July 19, 2011 Mr. Charles Dunn departed his life at his residence.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted parents, Mrs. Brownie Dunn and Mr. Eddie Lee Dunn Jr. both of Americus GA; Four sisters: Rosa (MacArthur) Rutherford of Americus GA, Brownie Dudley of Waldorf, MD, Georgia Furlow of Americus, GA, and Naomi (Thomas) Tinnin of Atlanta, GA; two brothers: Sam (Regina) Dunn of Riverdale, GA, and Eddie (Kim) Dunn III of Americus, GA. Funeral service for Mr. Andrew Leverette of Americus, Georgia

will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of West's Mortuary in Americus, GA with Rev. Willie Greene officiating.

Mr. Andrew “Andre” Leverette was born in Americus, GA on January 12, 1966 to the parentage of the late Mrs. Florine Leverette Thomas, the late Richard Gaynor, and James Dodson. He received his education from Americus High. During that time, he was an outstanding all-star football player. He graduated in 1984. 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Florine Leverette Thomas, his father Richard Gaynor, his sister Latasha Thomas, his grandmother Willie Buckins, and his aunt Cathy Ann Buckins. Mr. Leverette died on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center.

He leaves to mourn his passing, three daughters: Coneisha Leverette, Camelia Leverette-Lewis (Derren), and Andrea Leverette all of Americus, GA; Two brothers: Darius Harris (Patricia) of Americus, GA and Robert Davis of Newman, GA. Six sisters: Renee Whitt (Will) of Seattle, WA, Tanya Jeffords (William) of North Augusta, SC, Shelly Fagan of Bessmer, AL, Yvette Long of Mendham, NJ, Elana Gatvan of Patterson, CA, and Kimberly Davis of San Jose, CA. Funeral services for Mr. John L. Mathis age 66 of Westside Dr. Americus, GA

will be held Saturday, July 16th at 11:00 A.M. at the Power of Faith Deliverance Church on Ashby Street in Americus with Prophetess Linda Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. Mathis died on Sunday July 10th at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus.

 

Mr. John L. Mathis was born on September 1, 1944 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Sallie and C.P. Mathis. He was married to the late Gertrude Mathis. He was preceded in death by one brother Minister Ike Mathis. Mr. Mathis died on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Left to cherish his memory are his four sons: Johnny Mathis, Jr. “G-Moe”, Reginald “Poochie” Mathis (Fenita Reddick), Joel Mathis and Dean Mathis all of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Cassie Weston of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Prophetess Linda Mathis of Americus, Georgia. A host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive.

 

 

Funeral services for Ms. Mattie Mae Walters of Buttercup Lane Americus, GA

will be held Friday, July 8th at 11:00 AM at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Mattie Mae Walters was born on May 1, 1932 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Dan and Gussie Walters and passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at her home in Americus, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her devoted daughter Emma Jean Lockett, her sister Hattie Mae (Roy) Foster and niece Veronica (John) Brown.

Sis Walters was an active member of the Allen Chapel AME Church where she served in many areas - Secretary of the L.J. Jones Usher Board, President of Stewardess Board #2, Secretary of Stewardess Board #3, and Correspondence Secretary of the Noisy B. Stephens Women’s Missionary Society. She was chosen Queen of the Eastern District WMS (Women’s Missionary Society, and was a member of the adult church school class.
Survivors include her son, Rev. Ted (Trudy) Walters of Vidalia, GA, brother, Dan Walters Jr. and sister Lizzie Maye of Americus, GA, grandchildren, Barry (Bridget) McGrady, Marietta, GA, Corey (Kelly Tyner) Lockett, Americus, GA, Trenton Walters, Vidalia, GA, Kima (Jermaine) Young, Savannah, GA, and Alicia Brantley, Vidalia, GA, great-grandchildren Brandi, Breah and Barry (B.J.) McGrady Jr, Marietta, GA, Saviyah Brantley, Vidalia, GA and Kimora Young, Savannah, GA devoted nephews, Roy “Butch” Foster Jr. (Tairetha), West Palm Beach, FL, Robert and Kelvin Maye as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
