The funeral service for Veteran Jerome Felton of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Frist United Holiness Church in Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery. Jerome will lie in repose in Americus on Thursday from 2:00 to 7:30 and in Montezuma on Friday from 9:00 to 7:30.

Mr. Jerome Felton was born in Montezuma, Georgia on June 26, 1959 to the late Mr. Alonzo Woolfork and Ms. Josie Lewis. He was reared with loving care by Mrs. Dollie B. Felton. Jerome was educated in the Macon County school system. He is a graduate of the D.F. Douglass High School where he participated on the drumline. After high school, he joined the Georgia National Guard and served in the Infantry and Corps of Engineers from which he retired.

On March 27, 1981, he married the love of his life, Trenna Poole, and to this union four children were born. Jerome was a man that enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, motorcycle riding, and singing just to name a few. Later in life, he became a member of the First United Holiness Church where he attended and served until Our Father in heaven called him home. He is preceded in death by his mother Mrs. Dollie B. Felton, one brother Mr. Lonnie Woolfork, and one sister Ms. Gladys Felton.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his mother, Ms. Josie Lewis; wife, Trenna Felton; four children: Kimesha Felton, Tiffany Felton, Cheri Felton and Shalisha (Kadeem) Williams; one granddaughter, “PaPa's baby” Ryleigh Kaye. He also leaves behind four brothers: Michael (Barbara) Felton of Montezuma, Georgia, Dennis (Betty) Thomas of Hartford Connecticut, Reginald (Brenda) Thomas of Hartford Connecticut and Darron Felton of Montezuma Georgia; five sisters: Anne Felton of Montezuma Georgia, Lisa (Arney) Bryant of Vienna, Georgia, Audrey Woolfork, Sharon (Jody) Beal and Amilia (Eric) Williams all of Montezuma, Georgia;  a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The funeral service for PFC Joe Louis Reynolds of Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia with Pastor Leroy Reynolds officiating.

 PFC Joe Louis Reynolds was born on November 11, 1952 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mr. Willie J. Reynolds, Sr. and the late Mrs. Rose B. Reynolds.  He served honorably in the U. S. Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. PFC Reynolds died on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Americus, Georgia. 

 PFC Reynolds leaves to cherish his memories his wife; Hattie Reynolds of North Carolina, three sons: Rodney (Laytrina) Brown of Austell, Georgia, Terrell Reynolds of  Union City, Georgia and Marcus Reynolds of North Carolina; two step daughters: Latrena Sims of Americus, Georgia and Michelle Wallace of North Carolina; two brothers: Leroy (Annie) Reynolds of Vienna, Georgia and Willie James (Martha) Reynolds of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Bessie Thomas of Americus, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Johnny Wright of Preston, Georgia; four aunts: Frances Burton of Macon, Georgia, Doris Baker, Mamie Baker and Mamie Reynolds of Americus, Georgia; one uncle, Phillip Reynolds of Americus, Georgia; a niece that was reared as a sister, Aretha Ross (Sylvester) Hallmon of Albany, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and other relatives also survive.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Rogers of Oglethorpe, Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia with Reverend Alfred Wynn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Joiner Rogers was born on November 26, 1958 to the late Mr. Frederick James Joiner, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary Ann Williams Joiner in Montezuma, Georgia.

Dorothy Jean joined Zion Hill Baptist Church early in life. She attended the public schools of Macon County and was in the class of 1976 at D. F. Douglass High School. She was married to Mr. Danny Rogers who preceded her in death.

On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Dorothy Jean Rogers departed this life. Jean had an humble spirit. She was a nurturer and a giver. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her sisters: Bessie English (Boisey), Ruby Joiner, Brenda Joiner, Freddie Joiner, Mary Nell Joiner, Laura Lester(Tony), LaShavous Joiner  and Kimyatta Joiner; two brothers: Frederick Joiner, Jr. (Kizzy) and Ricky Joiner (Ashley); mother-in-law, Josephine Rogers; brother-in-law, Tony Redding; aunts: Ruby Miller, Mildred Johnson (Ernest), Janie Mae Smith, Betty Ann Williams and Bessie Lee Williams; uncles: Willie B. McGhee, Adel Joiner (Johnnie Mae) and Willie B. Joiner; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service for Ms. Schenita Williams Martin of Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John Baptist Church in Leslie, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Schenita was born October 30, 1957 in Lee County, Georgia to the late Mr. Jessie Lee Williams and Mrs. Ethel Lee Williams. She was educated in the public schools of Lee County up until her 9th grade year. Her family then moved to DeSoto, Georgia in 1971 where she began attending Union High School and earned her high school diploma in 1975. After graduating high school, Schenita entered the workforce, working at Woodgrain Moldings in Americus, Georgia from 1977-1985, Textron Automotive in Americus, Georgia from 1985-2000 and Cooper Tires in Albany, Georgia from 2000-2006.

For 10+ years, Schenita attended Oasis World Outreach in Americus, Georgia and served on the intercessory prayer team and praise team faithfully. She later began to frequent First United Holiness Church in Montezuma, Georgia until her passing.

Along with her father, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Fabian R. Drew; her sister, Ms. Durrie Lee Williams; her brothers, Mr. M.C. (June) Savage, Mr. Eddie Jean Williams, Mr. Lee Edward "Pete" Savage, Sr. and Mr. Jesse D. Williams.

While her life on this side came to an end on Saturday, August 03, 2019, her legacy will forever live in the  hearts of her daughters: Cynthia Whitehead and Anisha Walton; her mother, Ethel Lee Williams; her beloved grandchildren: Jamesia (Jay) Monts, Charleston Drew, Caitlin Drew, Caleb Drew and Cameron Walton; a beloved great-grand, Ryleigh Monts all of Americus, Georgia; her loving sisters: Alma (Jacob) Telfair of Albany, Georgia, Mary (Jerome) Dennis of Lithonia, Georgia and Louise (Clifford) Colson of Jesup, Georgia; her caring brothers: John (LaVerne) Williams of DeSoto, Georgia and Calvin Williams of Americus, Georgia; a devoted godson, Gary Lee Brooks of Newnan, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends all survive the late Schenita Williams Martin.

The funeral service for Mr. Johnny B. Thomas, Sr. of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the Lebanon Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia with Rev. Hosie Waters officiating.

Mr. Johnny Broner Thomas was born in Americus, Georgia on September 09, 1943 to the late Mr. Roscoe Lamar Thomas and the late Mrs. Elma Taylor Thomas- Culliver of Americus, Georgia. On Friday, July 26, 2019 Mr. Johnny Broner Thomas Sr, loving father and grandfather passed away at the age of 75. He was self-employed as an automotive mechanic where he practiced for over 50 years until he retired.  He had a passion for fishing and hunting. He joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age, where he later finished his devotion to Christ at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Staff Sgt Johnny Broner Thomas Jr.; father and mother, Roscoe and  Elma; two sisters: Virginia Byrd and Naniele James; wife, Freddie Thomas; devoted uncle, Bishop John T. Taylor; devoted aunts: Rosa Lee Young, Georgia Lee Broner, Tommy Lee Brown, Ceolia Roberts, Essie Johnson, Annie Colbert and Thelma Hurley.

He leaves to cherish his memories five sons: Daren Thomas, Derrick M. Thomas,  Michael (Sharon) Manns and Gregory Williams all of Americus, Georgia and Donald Minter of Ellaville, Georgia;  one daughter, Marilyn Mallard of Montezuma, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Clara Thomas of Lee County, Georgia; two brothers: Roscoe Lamar, Jr. of Hartford, Connecticut and Willie Lamar of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Norma Hurley, of Americus, Georgia; eighteen  grandchildren, including two devoted granddaughters: Shonemeca Thomas-Hill and D’erica Thomas; two devoted grandsons: Drill Sgt Dominque Thomas and Quinten Thomas; thirty great grandchildren; six aunts: Mrs. Lillie Cladd, Mrs. Elnora Girvens, Mrs. Lady B. Sims, Missionary Lois Taylor and Mrs. Doris Pope all of Americus, Georgia and Mrs. Mae Frances Baker of Jacksonville, Florida; A host of other relatives and friends, including his devoted partner in crime “Lady B. Sims”, a devoted cousin Lynn (Thomas) Reagon, and a devoted neighbor Mary Lundy also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Charlie Walters of Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Scott Mater CME Church on S. Hampton Street in Americus, Georgia with Rev. Curtis Iverson officiating. Burial will follow at Freeman Hill Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia. The family will receive friends for a Wake at West's Mortuary on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 6:00 to &:00 P.M.

 

A Time To Be Born:

Mr. Charlie Walters was born in Sumter County, Georgia on November 30, 1948 to the parentage of the late Mr. Moses Walters and the late Mrs. Willie Lou Walters. At an early age, he joined the Longbranch Methodist Church.

A Time To Live:

Charlie started his career in 1967 with Reeves Construction Company where he was a dedicated employee for forty-one years. Then on July 16, 1970, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Jackson. This couple enjoyed dancing and mostly each other’s company. They were blessed to be together for forty-nine years. To this union four children were born.

A Time To Die:

On July 22, 2019, God called his soldier home. Mr. Charlie Walters, affectionately known as “Gator” went home to join his siblings who have preceded him in death: Alice Barner, Emma Cross, James Walters and Willie Mae Montgomery.

A Time To Mourn:

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Patricia Walters of Americus, Georgia; his children: Kelvin Walters, Melissa Walters (Luther Bess), Amy Walters and La’Toya Walters all of Americus, Georgia; five grandchildren: Ty’Kerria Parker, Carlecia Jackson, La’Jerria Waters, Benjamin Jackson and Dwayne Waters III all of Americus, Georgia; his siblings: Annie Bell Holmes, Mozelle Harpe, Mary Lee Walters and Henry Walters all of Americus, Georgia; his in-laws: Bennie Jackson of Americus, Georgia, Betty Jenkins (Lynn) of Orlando, Florida, Bessie Jackson of Americus, Georgia, Nathaniel Jackson (Marilyn) of Ellaville, Georgia, Jerome Jackson (Patricia) Bobby Jackson, Zebb Jackson (Anna Lois) of Americus, Georgia and Susie Gibson of Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Rosie Anderson was born on October 7, 1918 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Joel and Berdie King. Rosie later met and married the late Albert Anderson. After her husband's passing, she resided at Harbor Beach Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida until God called her home.

Rosie leaves to cherish her memories five nieces: Lucille Barner of Bridgton, New Jersey, Dorothy Jean Moulton of Jacksonville, Florida, Emma Lowe, Doris Furlow (Charles) and Sharrian King all of Americus, Georgia; two nephews: Arthur King (Jackie) of Atlanta, Georgia and Malcolm King (Janet) of Americus, Georgia; a host of other nieces and nephews; great nephew, Walter Jackson, Sr.; two devoted great great nieces: Jocelyn Jackson and Tangela Jackson both of Pompano Beach, Florida.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Geneva Young, age 92 of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Scott Mater CME Church on S. Hampton Street in Americus Georgia with Elder James H. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Geneva Young was born on August 13, 1926 in Desoto, Georgia to the late Eugenia King Bryant and Johnny Bryant. She passed away on July 18, 2019 at her daughter's home in Americus, Georgia. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Charlie Hall.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her three sons: Willie James (Isabel) Lucas of San Jose, California, John Allen (Lilly) Hall of Margate, Florida, James Young, Jr. and Alice of Dublin, Georgia; one daughter, Patricia Hall Edden and Jerome Jackson of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Hazel Frederick of Americus, Georgia; her aunt and uncle: Eleanor Charleston of Orlando, Florida and George King of Americus, Georgia; sister-in-law, Laura Brinson of Riviera Beach, Florida; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hall of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; her grandchildren: Willie, Jerome and Daryl Edwards, Rachel Willis, Debra Jackson, Vernon Edden, Timesha Edden, James Edden, Raymorn Edden, Corey Hall, Tameka Hall, Jaclyn Simmons, Curt Lucas, Tresa Hall, Sakrina Hall and Jamal Young; one granddaughter, Tara Leverett was a God send. She was a dedicated soldier. Special thanks to her. She is also survived by thirty-five great grandchildren and twenty-one great great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her neighbors over at Ravenwood Apartments. She was their Rock.

Deacon Clarence Wilbon, Sr.

The Funeral Service for Deacon Clarence Wilbon, Sr. will be held Friday, July 19, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Old Shady Grove Baptist Church, Americus, Georgia. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery, Americus, Georgia.

Deacon Clarence Wilbon, Sr. was born in Schley County, Georgia on January 10, 1925, to the parentage of the late Mr. Clifford Wilbon, Sr. and the late Mrs. Bertha Black Wilbon.  He joined the Old Shady Grove Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until his health failed.

 On August 9, 1947 he married Bessie Mae Butler who preceded him in death.  Unto this union 5 children were born.

 After Deacon Wilbon’s health failed, he resided at the Magnolia Manor and would assist other residents by pushing those in wheelchairs who needed assistance or whatever he could do to help others.  Many who saw him thought he was an employee at the manor.  He loved to sing and would often join in singing with various church choirs that would go to the manor to sing for the residents.  He continued to do this until taking a fall a few years ago.    

He is preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Wilbon of Pahokee, FL, Leroy Wilbon of Riviera Beach, FL, Clyde Wilbon of Ideal, GA and Clifford Wilbon, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; one brother-in-law, Charles Butler and a sister-in-law, Edith (Ulysee) Harris. 

He leaves to mourn his passing two sons: Clarence Wilbon, Jr. of San Jose, California and Henry (Ozie) Wilbon of Americus, Georgia; three daughters: Barbara Wilbon of Americus, Georgia, Maxine (Chris) Sinnott of Smithville, Georgia and Jennifer Wilbon of Americus, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Kenny Wilkerson Jr., Carlos Wilbon, Shabrea Walton, and Je’Amber Burts all of Americus, GA, Jonah Wilbon of Atlanta, Georgia, D. Elaine Smith of Macon Georgia and Desiree Wilbon of San Jose, California; eight great grandchildren:  Traylen Wilkerson, Jaylen Mason, Janiece Lewis, Javeyon Burts, Ja’Miya Sadler, Jordan Smith, Ahmad Smith, and Serenity Jones;  four brothers-in-law: Thomas (Hattie) Butler, John Butler all of Americus Georgia, Pacie (Martha) Butler of New York, New York and Robert Butler of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters-in-law: Mattie (Champ) Everett of Yonkers, New York and Bertha M. Mann of New York, New York; a close cousin, Earnest L. (Willie) Seay of Americus, Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms.Thelma Collier

The Funeral Service for Ms. Thelma Collier will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 18, 2019 in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, Georgia. Interment will follow in Daniel Grove Cemetery, Americus, Georgia.

Thelma Collier was born to the union of James and Ola Collier in Dougherty County, Georgia on August 31, 1940. Thelma was raised in New Jersey where she attended public school. After graduation, she attended Fort Valley State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education. After her college graduation, she relocated to Newark, NJ, where she taught school until retirement.

In 1998, she relocated to Americus, Georgia to care for her mother and Aunt Viola Dowdell. Those that knew Thelma knew that she was a private person who loved people. Thelma was a great pianist that travelled around the world showcasing her talent. She was a member of the NAACP, member of the Fort Valley State Alumni Chapter, and proud supporter of the US Marines Corps. 

Precious memories will remain with her cousins: Juanita Combs of Detroit, MI, Joyce Judd and Roger Judd of Newark, NJ, Geneva Collier and Vincent Collier of Albany, GA and Beulah Carter of Americus, GA; her half-brother, Bobby Sutton of Newark, NJ; devoted friend and caretaker, Jessica Thomas-Floyd (Earnest Floyd) of Americus, GA, and a host of many friends including Robert West, Sybil Patterson, Marvin Harris, Frank Wiley, Beulah Jackson, and Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Ferguson.
