The Funeral Service for Mrs. Reather G. Lakes of Montezuma, Georgia will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Salem Baptist Church, Montezuma, Georgia.  Interment will follow in Champ Waters Cemetery.

THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT THERE BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING AT WEST'S MORTUARY. You will be allowed to view Mrs. Lakes at her service at First Salem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Reather G. Lakes, daughter of the late Charlie and Charlie Mae Greene, was born on December 1, 1951. She was a member of the Spiritual House of The Lord in Montezuma, Georgia, where she served as a deacon.

Mrs. Lakes was a retired educator. She taught for over twenty years in the Macon County School System and ten years in the Sumter County School System. Mrs. Lakes was notably the first Black Woman to serve on the Montezuma City Council. She departed this life on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Her legacy lives on through her loving family which includes her husband, John Lakes; her daughter, Lamonica Lakes-Porter (Demario); her grandson, Daniel Porter; her granddaughters: Danielle Porter and Damaria Porter all of Montezuma, Georgia; her sisters: Estella G. Hudson (Willie) and Jeveverlyn G. Tookes; her brothers: Charlie Greene (Mary), Gilbert Greene, Carl Greene (Alice), and Reverend Anthony Greene (Tabitha); a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

My condolences to the FAMILY.  I was a Classmate of hers at DFDHS in Montezuma Georgia. She was always polite and easygoing…didn’t take no craft from any one..she had a few downsides but she was such a high spirit person ..just my few years around her. She was Very smart and intelligent. ..MAY SHE REST IN PEACE ..Reather Mae Greene🙏🏾🙏🏾💔🙏🏾🙏🏾🌹

To the Lake Family, I was sadden to learn of Mrs.Lake's passing. I only knew her for a short time but she left a lasting impression on you. I pray your family find peace in this most difficult time and may God continue to watch over you.
