The Funeral Service for Mrs. Sylvester Alexander Gordon will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:30 P.M. at Allen Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.

 

Sylvester Alexander Gordon, better known as “Sylvia”, was born August 19, 1941, to the late Marie Seal-Leverette and Ezekiel Alexander Sr. in Waldo, Arkansas. Later, she moved to Americus, Georgia where she planted her roots. She has been a dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church since 2015.

 

Sylvia began her career as a custodian for the Sumter County School System in 1990 and was a loyal and caring employee for sixteen years, until she retired in 2006.

 

Sylvia departed this life on November 26, 2023. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Andrew Leverette Sr.; and six brothers: Andrew Leverette Jr, Harvey Alexander, Raymond Alexander, Henry Lee (Charlotte) Leverette, Cecil Alexander, and Ezekiel Alexander Jr.

 

She leaves to mourn a sister, Queen Mency; a daughter, Joann Gordon; two sons: Charles Gordon (Debra), James Gordon Jr. (Merry), fourteen grandchildren: Mascio (Trina) Gordon, James (Krystal) Washington, Terrance Washington, Willie Washington III, Carlos (Victoria) Washington, Shaiketta Washington, James (Latoya) Gordon III, Shariah (Jason) Martin, Latavia Gordon, Angelica Gordon, Chadrick Gordon, Yasima (Brandon) Williams,  Michael Snipes, and Ronrica Gordon; three devoted friends: Doris Robinson, Mary Calloway, and Virginia French; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.

To the Gordon family. So sorry for your loss.  I visited your mother about 2 weeks ago and sat with. She was a sweet person.  May God strengthen you all and give you comfort doing this time. πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ for you all.

1 of 3 homes my mom allowed me to go to on Southside & boy have we had some conversations. From laughter to wisdom to her cooking she was an amazing and sweet woman. Blessed to have known her & will always remember her. Prayers of comfort and strength to her family.πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž
