Jarrett attended elementary and high school in Tampa. He became gainfully employed by Staples and worked there for many decades.  He later started his own barbecue business. Jarrett and his sons faithfully attended the New Millennium Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida.

Jarrett loved taking his sons to Orlando Magic games and shooting basketball hoops.  His daughter, Jaylen, loved going out to eat with him and taking boat rides. She just enjoyed sitting on the front porch and talking with her dad. Jarrett’s favorite hobbies were fishing, watching sports, barbequing, and spending time with his dog Buster. One of his special places for vacation was at his cousin Connie’s house in Ideal, Georgia.

My sincerest and dearest condolences to the family. I didn't know Jay (Jarrett) very long however the time I was able to spend in his presence was most memorable. He holds a special place in my heart and he knows exactly why.

Until we meet again.

My name is Alicia and Jay and I were roommates.

We met at a Christmas party on the card table. We ran that table all night! God works in mysterious ways because we met at a time in life when we both needed each other. We decided to team up to help each other out after our different divorces. Who knew six years later we would still be rocking.

Jay knew everyone lol. He was always introducing me to a friend, a cousin or a family member he would tell me about. Y’all know Jay could talk for hours. And when he told you about someone he talked them up so well you would think you’re about to meet a president or something. He would often say that head ain’t big for nothing P.I.C.

That’s what we called each other P.I.C… (Partners In Crime) and that’s exactly what we were. People didn’t understand our relationship but we did. We literally weathered good times and bad times, surgeries, disputes, hurricanes and so much more together. We kept each other’s secrets, cried on each other’s shoulders and was always there for one another.

He had so many big plans I know he would have reached. Life gave him its struggles but it also seemed like things were heading up for him. Business was taking off and that phone stayed on FaceTime with his new girlfriend. The way he cleaned his room and bathroom before she came made me wish they had met sooner.

I’m going to miss my P.I.C. The house feels so empty without him. It’s hard to think of a space without him. I’m sure he would be complaining to you all about how much I would fuss at him. Jay was so messy. I don’t know who I’m going to fuss at now to pick up their cigarette butts or for having a bunch of green trees on my countertops.

I want to thank my P.I.C for an amazing six years. I told myself I will even keep up with your little plant I thought didn’t belong on our kitchen table. I know you’re up in heaven right now with that smoke going in the air and we will forever love and miss you P.I.C.
