The Graveside Service for Mr. Roscoe Lamar, Jr. will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Plains, Georgia with Bishop Melvin McCluster officiating.

Roscoe Lamar Jr. was born on July 5, 1948, in Americus, Georgia to the late Roscoe Lamar, Sr. and the late Mary Lou Lamar. He attended the Sumter County Public Schools. At the age of 18, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut in search for better opportunities. Roscoe made Hartford, Connecticut his home. He was employed at Main and Tower for many years. He was also employed by the City of Hartford’s Department of Public Works, where he retired after 20 years of dedicated service.

Roscoe loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He loved to cook and was known for his delicious ribs. He was a true grill master. Roscoe enjoyed watching television and playing his numbers. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was extremely proud of their accomplishments, and he shared his joy with everyone he knew.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Brown; his daughter, Shalisa Lamar; his brother, Johnny Thomas, Sr.; and his sister, Nanell James. Roscoe passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Hartford, Connecticut.

Roscoe leaves behind to cherish his memories two sons: Garrett Lamar of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Tracey Lamar (Caprecia) of Americus, Georgia; four daughters: Stacie Walters (Kyle) and Torie Davis, both of Americus, Georgia, Rashanda Lamar of Bloomfield, Connecticut and Fatima McCaskill of South Windsor, Connecticut; two bonus children: Bryan Little and Shonrecca Foy both of Hartford Connecticut; thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; brother, Willie Lamar, Sr. of Fayetteville, Georgia; sister, Norma Hurley of Americus, Georgia; loyal and devoted nephew, Derrick Thomas of Americus, Georgia.; three aunts: Doris Pope, Francis Thomas, and Elizabeth Harris; one uncle, Rufus Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews and close family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Roscoe will be missed by many who knew him. We knew Roscoe when he was in Americus and in Hartford, Ct. We are sending our prayers to the family during this difficult time. May the Almighty God give the family strength to endure this loss.
