The Funeral Service for Sgt. Willie D. Harris, Sr. of Montezuma, Georgia will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 21, 2022, at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia. Sgt. Willie D. Harris, Sr. was born October 1, 1951, in Macon County, Montezuma, Georgia to the late John Rackley and Annie Mae Harris. At an early age, he joined New Hope Baptist Church. He attended the Historic D.F. Douglass High School in Montezuma, Georgia. After graduating in 1970, he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1970 to 1979. During his enlistment, Sgt. Harris earned several National Defense Service Medals, Expert Badge, Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar and Expert Badge with Hand Grenade Bar. After traveling all over the world, he returned to Montezuma, Georgia and started a career at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia.
On Monday, October 17, 2022, Sgt. Willie D. Harris, Sr. transitioned from labor to reward while a patient at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Rackley and Annie Mae Harris; brother, Sgt. George Harris; sisters: Pauline Harris, Lessie M. Wilborn, Lula Rackley, Betty Green, Burnette White and Judie Gable; and a special grandson, Omar D. McDonald.
He leaves to cherish his memories and mourn his passing, one daughter, Kimberly Davis (Jimmy) of Montezuma, Georgia; two sons: Willie D. Harris, Jr. of Forest Park, Georgia and Marcell Harris of Macon, Georgia; his grandsons: Jary K. Smith (Samuel) of Byron, Georgia and Omar Harris of Forest Park, Georgia; his great-granddaughter, Eryn M. Thomas of Conyers, Georgia; a devoted cousin, Miltee Manning; a niece, Antoinette Harris; his sisters: Elizabeth Turner, Cecelia Marshall (Emmitt), Zebbie Rackley and Phylistine Gardner (David); his brothers: Leonard Rackley (Lounell), John Rackley and Curtis Rackley; his devoted mother figure, Mrs. Carrie Rackley; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends including his friends in the Five Points Community and the Dialysis Staff of Perry, Georgia.
