The Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony for Soror Chiquita A. Fye of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Friday, March 11, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at St. Peter AME Church, State University Drive, Fort Valley, Georgia. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Macon County High School Gym, 611 Vienna Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Dudley Memorial Cemetery in Dublin, Georgia. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you MASK UP and continue to practice social distancing for your protection and for the protection of others.

Chiquita Fye was born July 17, 1952, in Dublin, Georgia to the late Rev. and Mrs. Marion Fye, Sr. as baby sister to Jacintha, Edward and Marion, Jr. She graduated from Oconee High School in 1970 as both Valedictorian and Miss Oconee High. She went on to complete her Bachelor’s Degree and Doctorate of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Her servant’s heart led her to open a private practice in Montezuma, Georgia as the first Black physician in the area. Montezuma became her home and she served that community faithfully for ten years. Everyone in Macon County appreciated Dr. Fye's dedicated service to her community. She also practiced medicine in Columbus, Oglethorpe and other areas of Georgia.

Chiquita’s devotion to God through the AME Church was evident. As an active member of Bethel AME Church, she served as a Steward, former President and Youth Director for the Janie Jolley Missionary Society, church musician and choir director. She previously served as the Area Director of the Eastern District Women’s Missionary Society, Medical Director of the AME Church Connectional Health Commission, and was also a member of the World Methodist Council, attending conferences all over the world. She was a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a Life Member of the NAACP.

Chiquita is survived by her brother, Edward Fye, Sr. (Dorothy); niece, Felicia Fye Perry (Lewis); nephews: Edward Fye, Jr. (Litisha), James Holloway and Justin Holloway; cousins: James Dawson, Jr. (Arlene), Jasmine Ellis (Alfred), Aja Ellis and Afton Cowen (Rahmel); a host of other relatives and friends.

Sadden to hear about the passing of my schoolmate Chiquita.  We graduated from Oconee High School, Class of 1970 together.

My condolences to the Fye Family.

Our prayers are with you at this time and we hope that God will continue to shower you with his blessings. "To absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" and we all know that Chiquita is in a better place.

It was an honor to know you and to be a fellow Trojan and classmate.

Dr. Chiquita Fye was a trailblazer, a healer and a community treasurer. Because of her intellect, courage, and compassion, she accomplished the extraordinary in the face of great obstacles.  She should have been celebrated in life, and every young person in Dublin who has a desire to practice medicine should know her name.  Rest in peace, Dr. Fye.  You have earned your wings.
