Mr. Victor Earl Williams of Americus, Georgia died on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by West's Mortuary.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Leonardo Williams and several other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Mazarena Allen of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Hwy 26E, Montezuma, Georgia with Pastor Allen Waters officiating. Mrs. Mazarena Johnson Allen was born April 11, 1948, in Montezuma to Marvin and Eria Johnson. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and became a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a 1966 graduate of the historic D. F. Douglass High School. She furthered her education and earned a B.S. in Sociology in 1970 and a Master's in Counseling in 1972 from Fort Valley State College.

Mrs. Allen began her teaching career in Dooly County. Then she taught at Lamson Richardson School in Marshallville. She then became certified to counsel middle school students in Macon County. She retired from the Macon County School System after 22 years of service.

Mrs. Mazarena Allen passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Eria Johnson, and her sister Marilyn Grimes.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles Allen of Montezuma, Georgia; two sons: Christopher Allen and Reginald (Shelia) Allen of Montezuma, Georgia; three grandchildren: Christopher, Destiny and DeKameron; a great-grandson, Cayson; her sister and brother; Carolyn Isreal of Montezuma, Georgia and Carroll (Stephanie) Johnson of Warner Robins, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. A.B. Williams, Jr

Mr. A.B. Williams, Jr. of Albany, Georgia was born on January 15, 1944, to the late Mrs. Jennie Lee Williams and the late Mr. A.B. Williams, Sr. He was married to the late Cornelius Williams. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Eastview Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Glory Williams, Cory Lee Williams and Ann Williams; four brothers: John Williams, Ike Williams, Arthur Lee Williams and Michael Williams; mother-in-law, Elnora Ingram; one sister-in-law, Patricia Ingram and two nieces: Wanda Ingram and Helton Ingram. Mr. Williams died on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center.

Left to cherish his memories are his brothers: Leroy Williams and James Williams; one sister-in-law Ms. Pauline Ingram; one brother-in-law Henry Ingram; several nieces and nephews: Folivia (Eric) Ingram, Rozella Reynolds, Samantha (Anthony) Howard, Shante Reynolds, Marvin Williams and Christian Reese; great nieces and nephews: Quincy Daniels, Zykeria Ingram, Gregory, Xzavier, ShaQuitay, Tavoris Daniels, Braylin, Sabrina, Jacoby, Devonta Ingram and Jeremiah Reynolds. A host of other relatives and friends also survive.

John Willie “J.W.” Harris, Jr. was born December 19, 1944, in Montezuma, Georgia to Elizabeth Ford Harris and John Willie Harris, Sr. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and became a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church. He grew up in Montezuma and attended the historic D. F. Douglass High School. He was employed at Southern Frozen Foods, Pine Timber, Weyerhaeuser, and was a self-employed mechanic.

J.W. Harris, Jr. departed this life Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and John Willie Harris, Sr.; two sons: Alfonza Smith and Kelly Ivory; his sister, Angela Johnson; two brothers: Robert Nelson and Ronnie Nelson; his grandchildren: Kelly Harp and John Thomas Clayton.

Precious memories will forever be cherished by his children: Christi Michelle Harris and Debra Ivory of Oglethorpe, Georgia; his devoted niece, Marilyn Rogers of Marshallville, Georgia; his devoted cousin, Tara Mallard of Montezuma, Georgia; his sisters: Elois Clark of Montezuma, Georgia, Lavern N. Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brenda Royal of Macon, Georgia; his brother, Reverend Curtis (Beverly) Bason, Sr.; aunts: Sara (Phillip) Tutt and Martha Ford of Macon, Georgia; uncles: Willie K. (Mary Ann) Nelson, Sr. of Maryland and Ezell Nelson of Chesterfield, Virginia; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, dear friends: Eddie Cochran, Willie McCrary and Jean Brown.

Leonard Rackley was born September 19, 1951, in Macon County Georgia to Carrie Kleckley Rackley and J.D. Rackley. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and became a member of First Salem Baptist Church. He grew up in Montezuma and was a 1971 graduate of the historic D.F. Douglass High School. While at Douglass High School, he excelled in basketball and was the drum major for the Marching Hornets.

Mr. Leonard Rackley passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Rackley; five sisters: Burnette White, Leslie Thornton, Betty Lou Green, Judie Gable and Lula Rackley; and two brothers: Lamar Rackley and Don Harris.

Precious memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Lounell Rackley of Montezuma, Georgia; his daughters: Lametria (Merrell, Sr.) Rackley-Crawford and Latonya Rackley of Montezuma, Georgia, Lakeshia Rackley of Albany, Georgia, and LaShundra Rackley of Hapeville, Georgia; his son, Kelvin Porter of Montezuma, Georgia; his mother, Mrs. Carrie Kleckley Rackley of Montezuma, Georgia; his sisters: Elizabeth Turner, Cecilia (Emmitt) Marshall and Zebbie Dell Rackley all of Atlanta, Georgia; his brothers: JB Rackley and Curtis Rackley of Montezuma, Georgia; six grandchildren: Alysia Hope Law, Merrell Crawford, Jr., Lamar Rackley, Leah Rackley, Langston Paster, and Kawanalyn Porter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ernest White of Atlanta, Georgia,  Burnell Story of Montezuma, Georgia, and Boisey (Bessie) Loftly of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a dear friend and co-worker, Anita Clyne; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lindsey Caroll Cromer was born March 3, 1957, in Montezuma, Georgia to J. W. and Alice Williams. She grew up in Montezuma and graduated from the historic D.F. Douglass High School. Lindsey passed away on January 27, 2023.

She leaves many precious memories with her husband, William Cromer, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; her children: Eljarodo Cromer of Atlanta, Georgia, Pamela (David) Harp, Dreena Cromer, Andrea Walker, and De’Angelo Cromer all of Ideal, Georgia; her grandchildren: Dior Isom, De’Andreas Cromer, Shandrea Gaines, Jawaune Cromer, Jhajha Cromer, Shydajha Johnson, and Synai Harper; her great-grandchildren: De’Ashia Golphin, Amelia Gaines, and Risten Cromer; her sisters: Eva Duncan of Atlanta, Georgia and Hattie Neal of Decatur, Georgia; her uncle, Nathaniel Rogers of Ideal, Georgia; her brothers-in-law: Willie Glover, Jr. of Montezuma, Georgia and Harold Shoates of Oglethorpe, Georgia; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Martin; her cousin/ brother, James E. Marvin Hunt was born September 5, 1952, in Americus, Georgia to Wilson Hunt and Louise Hunt. He retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company.
 
Deacon Hunt departed this life on January 26, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of forty-three years, Mary Ann Hunt; five children: Joseph Hooks, Sr., Reginald (Berneice) Hooks, Sr., Vickie (Antwon) Thomas, Valisa (Pastor Derick) Mercer, and Marvin Johnson, Sr.; his sister, Nellie Coleman, his brother, Wilson Hunt, Jr.; twenty-two grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Joseph Jerome Perkins

The Funeral Service for Mr. Joseph Perkins, Sr. of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Brown Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy 224, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow in Brown Chapel Cemetery. Public Visitation for Mr. Perkins will be Friday, February 3, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at West's Mortuary. Joseph Jerome Perkins, Sr. was born October 27, 1953, in Montezuma, Georgia to Bessie Lee Sneed Perkins and Norman Perkins, Sr. He was the youngest of twelve siblings. Joe attended Flint River Farm School and was a 1971 graduate of D. F. Douglass High School. He continued his education at Morris Brown College and graduated from Georgia State University and Dekalb County Community College. Joe married Deborah Perkins on March 11, 1977, and to this union three children were born.

Joe was employed as a drafter by the City of Atlanta under Maynard Jackson, the first Black mayor of the city. During Mayor Jackson’s tenure, Joe helped design what we know as Spaghetti Junction. He was also employed at Kraft Foods as a line supervisor. Later he followed in his brother’s footsteps and started his branch of Perkins Auto Recycling. He was also an expert tax preparer and expert trumpet player. Mr. Joe was also an expert political and world news analyst. CNN and MSNBC were his favorite tv channels. He loved music of all genres, but Rock and Country were his favorites. He also enjoyed cooking on the grill. Ribs were his favorite to burn up. His favorite football team was the Georgia Bulldogs. Joe enjoyed dressing up, driving his trucks, and spending time with his family. Family was extremely important to Joe. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren.

Mr. Joe Perkins departed this life on January 25, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Norman Perkins, Sr.; his wife, Deborah Perkins; six siblings: Carrie Palmer, Edith Davis, Cindy Sullins, Norman Perkins, Jr., Norma Jackson, and Bessie Leary; his brother-in-law, William (Annie) Wims; and two very close friends: Kenny Lewis and Drufus Clayton.

He leaves precious memories with his three children: Raven Perkins, Ashley (John) Scott, and Joseph Jerome Perkins, Jr.;  He was a father-figure to his great-nephews and great-niece: Norman Perkins IV, Quentin Perkins, and Cheree Perkins; his grandchildren: Justin, Kaleel, Isaiah, Kingston, Khilan, John III, Jordan and Zymorion; his siblings: Lena Johnson, Richard Perkins, Claude Perkins, Ernest Perkins, Sr., Lillian Butler, Meridith Hodo, Bruce Palmer, Jackie Palmer, and Janet (John) Taylor; sisters-in law and brothers-in-law: Fred Wims, Curtis (Jennifer) Wims, John (Ethel) Wims, Barbara (Samuel) Thomas and Cynthia (Edward) Jones; mother-in-law, Bobbie Lee Wims; several close friends; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Graveside Service for Infant Eldriuana Donae Mercer will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in Eastview Cemetery.

Eldriuana Donae Mercer, the precious baby girl of Donavinch and Kimberly Mercer was born into the arms of angels on January 23, 2023 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus Georgia. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Annie Taylor Colbert.

Although she’s with the angels, she will forever live in our hearts. Eldriuana will forever be loved by her parents: Donavinch and Kimberly Mercer of Americus, Georgia; her grandparents: Eldridge and Ernestine Mercer of Americus, Georgia, and Samuel and Corene Williams of Jacksonville, Florida; a devoted godmother, Sharon Jones of Palm Coast, Florida; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ms. Annie Mae Durham

The Graveside Service for Ms. Annie Mae Durham will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Cemetery in Plains, Georgia.

Annie Mae Durham was born in Americus, Georgia on May 15, 1942, to the parentage of the late Lenard Durham and the late Mattie Waters Durham. She was affectionately known as Sister Babe by her loving family and friends.  

On January 19, 2023, God said, “My Good and Faithful Servant, well done”, and Annie transitioned from this earthly plane to her heavenly home while at Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Jessie Durham and her sister-in-law, Carrie Mae Durham. Annie spent years in their care until their death.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories and to celebrate her life, a brother, Charlie Durham; four nieces: Ms. Gina Durham Whitaker, Ms. Virginia Durham, Ms. Salisa Durham and Ms. Siretha Armour Dobbs; four nephews: Charles Durham, Charlie Durham, Farmonta Brown and Monroe Brown. A host of other relatives and friends also survive.
