The funeral service for Mr. Walter Edwards of Smithville, Georgia will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the St. John A.M.E. Church in Plains, Georgia. Burial will follow at St. Paul A.M.E. Cemetery.

Roe and Florrie Bell Edwards’ hearts delighted in welcoming Flora Mae, Norma Ruth, Rodolph, and Walter. Their legacy has come full circle. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. On August 21, 2019, Walter fulfilled his life’s journey on Earth.  His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord”.

When the door opened that lead Walter into life eternal; he entered knowing he kept the only two promises requested by his parents, watch over the land and the children (Glenice and Walter Randolph). He served faithfully as a devoted Steward of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Smithville, GA and as a member of Saint Bartholomew Lodge 177 until his health would not allow him to be physically present but not spiritually.

He leaves to cherish his devoted wife, confidant, and way maker of 58 years Anna Lucile Monts Edwards. Their union produced a quintet of daughters Florine, Bertha, Annie, Carolyn, and Sabrina.  His bountiful harvest also includes Patricia Simmons-Davis, God daughter Susie Henderson, and his baby the late Latonya Hurley-Larkins.  He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Florine White Laster, devoted niece and nephew Glenice Burton and Herschel Edwards.
He also leaves to cherish his grandchildren David Laster, Calvin Laster, Christal Blalock, Walter Simmons, Cassondra Covington, Joshua Howard, Kayla Howard, Deshavia Simmons, Kennedi Howard and three devoted great-grandchildren Christian and Gabrielle Laster and Tabious Laster. Son-in-laws Connie Ford and Ralph Covington; Sister-in-laws Martha Edwards, Mary Jackson, Edna Jones, and Earnestine Jackson and Brother in-laws John (Ida) Monts, David and Williams Monts, Ed (Juanita) Ross, and Albert Monts.

His life could not have been more bountiful if not for the love and dedication of Ralph Morgan, Mark Tullis, and his care-giver/daughter Emma Wright.
