The Funeral Service for Mr. Calvin James of Stockbridge, Georgia will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at World Changers Church, College Park, Georgia. Interment will follow on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Byromville, Georgia. The family will receive friends at West’s Mortuary, 325 Drayton Street, Montezuma, Georgia on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Calvin James was born on February 20, 1947 to Elmo Sr. and Edith James (née Mainor) in Byromville, GA (who both preceded him in death). He is the third of nine siblings (Marlene, Mildred, the late Burnice, Eloris, Aaron, Elmo Jr., Howard, and Shirley). He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and joined New Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Calvin graduated from Vienna High School in 1965 and joined the U.S. Air Force. After completing four years of service to his country, he was honorably discharged. He moved to Atlanta, GA in 1970.

He was married to Althira Lee in 1972 and, together, they raised three lovely children: one boy and two girls, one of which preceded him in death (Felicia “Lisa” Allen). He worked at Kinney Shoes for a couple of years. He later worked as an insurance agent with National Life Insurance for over forty years (the company was later known as American General, then AIG). He enjoyed his job and took great pride in being one of the top agents, acquiring numerous national, regional and divisional awards. A couple of the qualities that allowed Calvin to be efficient in his role are his good humor and ability to connect with people...all people. He had the ability to spark up a conversation with anyone who was willing to listen and respond. He retired in February of 2013.

He later met and married the love of his life, Anita James (née Brown) in 2015 and gained a loving daughter, son-in-law and two additional grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, traveling, watching Western movies and working on his 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Calvin loved being the center of attention and he loved being around people, especially his family. He loved all of his children and grandchildren and was very proud of them. He went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2019.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Anita James; in-laws: Mr. & Mrs. Roland Brown and Esther Dorsett of Nassau, Bahamas; his children and their spouses: Calvin Cornelius and Farah (Saintable) James of McDonough, GA; Rain (James)  and Jason Donald of Conyers, GA; Nikki (Brown) and Brian Stinson Sr. of Wellington, FL. He also leaves behind six sisters: Marlene and Ray Glaze of Stockbridge, GA; Mildred and William Wright of Plano, TX; Eloris James of Virginia; Shirley and Stanton Chaney of Lawrenceville, GA;  Beverly Roker of Dunwoody, GA; Sheila (Michael) Johnson of Houston, TX and three brothers: Aaron James of Atlanta, GA; Elmo Jr. and Jackie James of Stockbridge, GA; Howard and Cassandra James of Montezuma, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Vincent and Evelyn Brown of Miramar, FL, Jennifer Brown-Foster of Los Angeles, CA, Marion & Wendell Edgecombe, Martha & Larry Rahming, Christine Brown, Judy Taylor Brown, Denise Brown, Mary Dorsett, Paul Dorsett, Michelle Dorsett, Adrian Brown (Elizabeth), Terrance Brown, Lamarque Brown (Andrea) of Nassau, Bahamas, Brenda Brown of Buffalo, NY.
