Funeral services for Mrs. Georgia Lee Mitchell affectionately known as "Red" of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Cemetery
Ms. Georgia Lee Mitchell, was born on February 11, 1942 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late L. W. “Bud” Sims and the late Mary Gladys Stewart Sims, the third child of 15 siblings. She was educated in the public Schools of Sumter County. “Red” was employed as a cook for many years.
Georgia transitioned on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings: Charlie Sims, Annie Ruth Harvey, Catherine Poole and Deborah Ann Sims.
She leaves to mourn her passing one devoted daughter, Carolyn (Willie) Johnson; two devoted sons: Wilbert Mitchell Jr., Eric (and friend Sherry) Mitchell; three grandchildren: Tonya Mitchell, Tianna Mitchell all of Americus, Ga. and Krystalynne Nimmons of Columbus, GA; seven great grandchildren; Christopher (and friend Kendr Garry, Monique Garry, LyKeitia Mithell, Antavius Mitchell and Zariyah Mitchell all of Americus, GA and Nicole Termolen, stationed in Germany; one great great grandson, Master Bryant Edge; three sisters: Minnie Lee Davis, Martha Seay and Ernestine Rogers all of Americus, GA; four brothers: Bobby L. Sims, Harold Sims Sr., Robert L. Sims all of Americus, GA and McArthur Edwards of Portland, Oregon; one devoted aunt, Martha Edwards of Smithville, GA; two devoted uncles: Sammy Stewart of Miami, Florida and Lynwood Stewart of Americus, GA; four devoted friends Ms. Francis, Roger, Annie Ruth and Jake Sims. Several other relatives and friends also survive.
