Funeral services for Mr. Joe Louis Bruce Sr. of Mayo Street Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Williams Rd Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Joe Louis Bruce Sr. was born on May 13, 1942 in Americus Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bruce Sr. He received his education in the Sumter County School System in Americus Georgia. He was a faithful member of Eastview Church of Christ, where he served on the Brother Board. He was joined in Holy matrimony to Mrs. Matherlene Fredrick Bruce for 53 years and to this union five children were born. Joe worked for Seaboard Coastline Railroad for 42 years. After he retired he worked for the Sumter County Sheriff Department as a detail officer on weekends. Not being a stranger to hard work he started cutting grass and working his garden for his pleasure. Joe was always helping and reaching out to the community that he loved. He was preceded in death by a son Joe Louis Bruce Jr. and two sisters: Ms. Mattie Bagley and Ms. Omie Lee Clemons. Joe passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, Georgia.

He is survived by a very loving and devoted wife Mrs. Matherlene Bruce of Americus, Georgia; three daughters: Mrs. Gwenda (Joseph) Bruce Daniels, Americus, Georgia, Ms. Virginia Bruce, and Ms. Indee Bruce of Americus Georgia; two sons: Mr. Warren (Rita) Bruce and Mr. Desi (Latoya) Tisdol of Rochell, Georgia; one sister, Ms. Pearlie Mae Bruce of Jonesboro, Georgia; three brothers: Mr. Charlie W. Bruce Jr., Pahokee Florida, Mr. John (Tommie) Bruce Sr. and Walt  (Martha K.) Bruce both of Americus, Georgia; one daughter-in-law Nancy Bruce of Americus, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Henry (Gloria) Fredrick of Macon, Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Ms. Annie Ruth Mann, Ms. Della Lewis, and Mrs. Mary A. Lewis of Americus, Georgia and Mrs. Mary W. Pless, Macon, Georgia; A devoted friend Wayne Perkins of Americus, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, Alayna Bruce and a host of nieces, nephews and other.
