Mr. Robert Lee Myrick of Americus, Georgia passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Willson Hospice House in Albany Georgia. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 11:00 in the Eastview Cemetery.

Robert is survived by one daughter, Penny Myrick; two sisters: Mary Joe Denmark and Dora Denmark; his cousins: Bessie Mae Angry, Deloris Angry Gore, Lee Otis Burton and Tredarrian Colbert who was also his caregiver and a devoted friend Larry Volley; one grandchild

A Life Celebration for Mrs. Nadine Merritt Wilkerson of Americus, Georgia will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Friendship Cemetery in Americus, Georgia. Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Nadine Merritt Wilkerson was born on November 9, 1937 in Marion County, Georgia. She was the fifth child of the late George and Ida B. Merritt. “Mama Dine”, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was baptized at New Bethel Baptist Church at an early age. She graduated from Staley High School in 1955. She was a lifelong homemaker, doing domestic work only occasionally to provide for her family. She was a devoted daughter of a sharecropper living on a farm just outside the city limits of Americus, Georgia. Then she met and married the love of her life, Willie Wilkerson. She was his devoted wife until his untimely death.

Nadine “MaMa Dine” devoted her life to providing love and support to her three children and being caregiver to her parents and a disabled brother. She gave lovingly and humbly of herself. She taught life values to her children, including the importance of God as the center of life. She taught honesty and integrity, hard work and sharing, how to treat people, and the importance of family.

Nadine “Mama Dine” transitioned into eternal rest on September 9, 2020 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Wilkerson, parents, George W. Merritt, Sr. and Ida B. Merritt, six brothers, one sister: Effie J. Merritt, Fred D. Merritt, John “JS” Merritt, Roosevelt Merritt, and Willie B. Merritt all of Chicago, Illinois, Marvin Merritt and George “GW” Merritt, Jr. of Americus, Georgia; one sister: Barbara Postell of Atlanta Georgia.

Nadine “Mama Dine” is survived by her three children: Bertina Merritt McGhee, Lenny Merritt, and Clovene Wilkerson; two grandchildren: Steven George Spillman and Jasmine Wilkerson; two brothers: Clyde Merritt of Chicago, Illinois and Malcolm (Janet) King of Americus, Georgia; three sisters, Diane (William) Smith, Doris (Charles) Farlow and Sharon King all of Americus, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Graveside Service for Mr. Clarence Freeman, Jr. will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, 8620 Highway 26 E, Montezuma, Georgia with Pastor Allen Waters, officiating. Public viewing will be Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Because of concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines have limited the number of people that can attend services. Please practice social distancing and WEAR A MASK for your safety as well as the safety of others.

 Clarence Freeman, Jr. was a gentle, loving and caring man.  He was quiet in spirit and everyone who met him loved him for his kind heart and mild spirit.  He passed away peacefully on September 7, 2020 with his immediate family by his side in Albany, Georgia.

He was born on November 7, 1950 to the late Clarence Freeman and Maude Harvey in Macon, Georgia.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Haugabook, and grandparents; Mamie and Jerry Harvey. Hearing the voice of God, at an early age he confessed his love for Christ and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia under the leadership of Pastor K.T. Hayes.  He was also an avid member of the Bible Study and Sunday School classes.  He was a faithful member until his death.

Clarence completed his public school education at D. F. Douglas High School in Montezuma, Georgia in 1968.  He began his career at Southern Frozen Foods Plant in Montezuma, Georgia and later joined the team at ITI Storm and Window Company.  In 1973, he landed a position at The Woolfolk Chemical Plant in Fort Valley, Georgia as a chemical sorting specialist.  He later became a seasonal specialist for the Pearson and Lane Entrepreneurs.

After a few years of dating (or courting as they used to say) as fate would have it, on December 15, 1972, he married Violet Adams and the two stood as man and woman and were betrothed in a Holy Union and started their life together with their two sons, Donald and Dexter.

Although he was quiet in spirit, Clarence loved to interact with his co-workers, friends and people in the community.  He was most recently employed by Flint River Hospital as a janitorial care specialist until his retirement in 2019.

Left to cherish his beautiful memories, his wife of forty-seven (47) years Violet Freeman of Fort Valley, Georgia; two sons; Donald (Zlumber) Adams-Freeman of Perry, Georgia  and Dexter (Jocelyn) Adams-Freeman of Nashville, TN; two granddaughters Zouie Banks and Donae  Adams both of Perry, Georgia; two great granddaughters; Katelynn and Kassisdy Banks both of Perry, Georgia;  three very devoted sisters; Bridgette (Paul) Johnson of Macon, Georgia, Veronica (Lance) Reynolds of Warner Robins, Georgia and Shirley Burke of Rochester, New York; six very devoted brothers; Jackie (Audrey) Freeman and Henry Colson both of Louisville, Kentucky, Terry (Furlow) Pryor of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Perry (Mary) Pryor, Oscar Freeman and Thomas Haugabook of Montezuma, Georgia; two aunts; Rosie Carter of Montezuma, Georgia and Barbara Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; four uncles; Reverend Willie Gene Harvey of Fort Valley, Georgia, Lucious (Virginia) Harvey of Atlanta, Georgia, Fredrick Harvey and Franklin McLarty of Montezuma, Georgia; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends; and the entire Five Points Community and New Hope Baptist Church Family.

He is survived by a son, Freddie Perry; three sisters: Annie Lee Hooks (Leroy) of Leslie, GA, Bernice Bowen and Bertha Mae Edge of Americus, GA; three brothers: Willie James Perry (Willie), Henry Lee Perry (Ruth) and Grady Edge, Jr. all of Americus, GA; nieces: Sandra Brown (Charles) of Desota, GA, Leroy Hooks III, of Leslie, GA, Jimmy Hooks  (Carla) of Albany, GA, Virginia Gaines (James) of Decatur, Georgia, Beverly Mathis (Henry) of Texas, Stephanie Bowen, Janice Marie Bowen. A Graveside service for Ms. Linda Diane Harper of Americus, GA will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Eastview Cemetery with Rev. Norris Harris officiating.

Ms. Linda Diane Harper was born on June 8, 1962 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Jesse White and Ms. Eula Bell Harper of Americus, Georgia. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School in Americus, Georgia. At an early age she joined Welcome Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. She was employed at Lillian Carter Nursing Home and Magnolia Manor as a CNA. Linda enjoyed her family and friends and will always be remembered for her laughter and companionship. She was a lovely and caring person that was loved by many.

Ms. Harper passed peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. She was predeceased in death by her brother, Willie Roger Harper, an aunt, Shirley Gadson, three uncles: Willie Jesse Harper, Johnny Harper and Login Harper, and a nephew that she considered as a son, Marcus Harper.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Eula Bell Harper; two sons: Marco Harper and Jabis Harper; two sisters: Debra (Timothy) Wilkerson and Carolyn Harper; two brothers: Glenn (Veronica) Harper and Ulysses Harper; three aunts: Gloria Reynolds, Mamie (Phillip) Reynolds and Mae-Vaster Coleman; two uncles: Johnny Harper, Sr. and Ezella Harper; two grandchildren: Darrian Josey and Keimone Arbar; a devoted niece, Cheryl Wilkerson; a devoted cousin, Demetrious Lockhart; a devoted friend, Tamiko Mann; a devoted goddaughter, Treleshia Johnson; god-granddaughters: Taliyah Johnson, Raven Mann and Jasmine White;  a devoted friend, Vanessa Haynes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Strong of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on August 18, 2020 at his residence.  A private service for Mr. Strong will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 2:00 at Andersonville National Cemetery. Mr. Marvin C. Strong was born on March 14, 1960 in Macon County, Georgia to the late Mrs. Sweet Lee Strong and Mr. Willie Clarence Strong. He grew up in Montezuma and was a 1978 graduate of Macon County High School. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Army.

Mrs. Lucille Thomas Tucker of Americus, GA passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 13, 2020. Service arrangements will be announced later by West's Mortuary.

Mrs. Lucille Thomas Tucker was born on April 2, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Fossett Thomas Green (Arthur) and Edward Thomas. She was reared in New London, Maryland and educated at the St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Baltimore, MD.  Upon reaching adulthood, she met and joined in marriage the late Willie Dave Tucker. Together they were blessed with fourteen adorable children, nine boys and five girls.  

She was preceded in death by five of her children: Willie, Freddie, Arthur, Agnes, and (Infant) Tucker.

She is survived by nine children: Alex Tucker of Watsonville, CA, Albert Tucker of Weaver, AL, Alexia (Bobby) Woodham of Broxton, GA, Aletha (Robert) Hagans of Jacksonville, FL, Andrew (Angela) Tucker of Brunswick, GA, Anthony Tucker of Oakland, CA, Annette (Dwayne) Stephens of Americus, GA, Andre (Lisa) Tucker of Warner Robins, GA, and Antony Tucker of Americus, GA; her sister, Doris Thomas; sisters-in-law: Una Mae Thomas and Irene Tucker; brother-in-law, Henry Tucker; several nieces and nephews; twenty-five grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; friends and family to cherish her loving memories.

The Graveside Service for Mr. Felton Jerome Johnson will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Staley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Susie Tatum officiating.

On the beautiful day of July 4, 1961, I was blessed to be born to the now late, Thelma James Johnson and the late, Luther Johnson. They named me Felton Jerome Johnson.

At an early age, I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and joined the body of believers at the St. John AME Church, Plains, GA. I received my education in the public school system of Sumter County, GA, and graduated from Americus High School in 1980. I was an avid basketball player, and you could find me on the court, whether it be on McCoy Hill or the City Recreational League court. I was wherever the basketball was! I went on to further my education attending Fort Valley State University on a basketball scholarship in the position of point guard. I enjoyed life, and I enjoyed having the love of my children, family and friends.

On August 7, 2020, the Father spoke to me and said, “You have fought a good fight, you have finished the course, you have kept the faith.” Your mother, Thelma James Johnson and Father, Luther Johnson, await you. Your brother, James Johnson Jr, and your sister, Georgia Johnson, are also waiting for you. “…Enter into the joy of the Lord.”

He retired from Reeves Construction Company after 38 years of dedicated service. He is married to Mrs. Anna Marie Hayes Woods. Sonny passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Monday, August 3, 2020.
