A Memorial Service for Shalisa Devon Lamar will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Shalisa Devon Lamar was born on January 11, 1970 in Hartford Connecticut to Addie Jeanette Lamar and Roscoe Lamar Jr. At an early age, she joined Big Bethel Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. Shalisa graduated from Americus High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Shalisa was a free spirit who loved people. She had a laugh and smile that would light up any room. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Samantha and Sabrina Mann; four brothers: Tarus Mann, Terrell Mann, Terry Lamar and Michael Brown.
Shalisa passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
 
She is survived by three sons: Ryan Lamar-Dunnom, Terrellis Lamar and Jemarius Lamar; one granddaughter, Cephei Waters; her parents: Roscoe Lamar, Jr and Addie Jeanette Lamar; seven sisters: Stacie (Kyle) Walters, Erica (Bernard) Anthony, Tori (Brian) Davis, Rashonda Lamar, Fatima McCaskill, Tara Mann and Sherrie Trice; four brothers: Garrett Lamar, Tracey (Caprecia) Lamar, Rick (Tomeka) Mann and Octavius (Brittany) Billups; a devoted stepfather, Sammie Lee Mann Jr.; a devoted uncle, James Miles Jr.; a devoted aunt , Norwanna Miles; a devoted godmother, Athalene Walters; two devoted cousins: Valarie Coleman and Sharronda Williamson; a host of cousins, nieces and other relatives and friends also survive.

Rosalin "Roze" Dickson

The Memorial Service for Ms. Ms. Rosalin “Roze” Dickson, of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at noon at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, 8620 GA Hwy 26E, Montezuma, Georgia. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you MASK UP and continue social distancing for your protection and for the protection of others.

Rosalin Dickson, partner, aunt, sister, mentor, and precious friend, can be appropriately described as a black women’s health networker, world traveler, and historian. Roze was beloved by her family and friends. As a world traveler with a brilliant mind and compassionate heart, she significantly impacted all whose path she crossed.

Roze was born on November 8, 1951 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida to U.D. Dickson and Eugenia West McRoy.  She later relocated to Montezuma, Georgia where she was raised and reared as the lifetime daughter of the late Lucy Bell Cromer Johnson and John H. Johnson. Roze passed away on July 28, 2020 in New York.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted and dedicated partner, Debbie Newman of New York, a loving mother, Eugenia McRoy of Tallahassee, FL, two sisters: Juanita Dickson Peterson and Sherri Dickson of Washington, DC; brothers:  Dr. Kenneth McRoy of Eustis, FL, Gregory (Ronnie) McRoy, Sr. of Jacksonville, FL, James (Deidre) McRoy, Sr. of Tallahassee, FL, Antjuan Dickson of Rochester, New York and Vernard Dickson of Washington, DC; uncle, Hubert (Ernestine) West of Montezuma, GA; father-in-law, Dr. Marty Newman, of Albany, New York; three sisters-in-law: Sandy Barber of Stoughton, MA, Bonnie Wiener and Lisa McGee, both of Albany, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

Mr. Billy Sanders

The Funeral Service for Mr. Billy Sanders of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Hwy 26 E, Montezuma, Georgia. Billy Sanders was born on September 20, 1962 in Montezuma, Georgia to the late Richard and Martha Martin Sanders. Billy grew up in Montezuma, Georgia and attended D.F. Douglass High School. Until his retirement, Billy was employed for many years at Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley, Georgia. 

At an early age, Billy accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia.  He later moved his membership and joined New Hope Baptist Church.  Billy loved life, especially the special moments he shared with his family. He believed in keeping family relationships strong.  He enjoyed family outings and hosting family gatherings.  He was a BIG fan of the Atlanta Falcons. 

Billy passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Houston County Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings:  Vivian Sanders, Richard Sanders, Jr. and Timothy Kaigler.

Beautiful memories will forever be cherished by: his devoted wife of thirty-three years, Marsha Sanders of Montezuma, Georgia; his daughters: Ashley Sanders and Tyra Sanders, both of Montezuma, Georgia, Lashunda (Kareem) Burnam of Fairburn, Georgia and Jacinta Bush of Montezuma, Georgia; his grandchildren: Jalyn and Jamari Whitaker and Jade Glee, all of Montezuma, Georgia; his sisters, Glenda Sanders of Montezuma, Georgia and Martha Ann Sanders of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother, Rodney (Minnie) Sanders of Warner Robins, Georgia; his aunts:  Annette Smith of Montezuma, Georgia and Mary Hill and Roberta (Robert) Stockner of Naples, Florida; his uncle, Thomas Sanders of Montezuma, Georgia; a special cousin, Archie Sanders; his godson, Nasir Haslem; special “bonus” grandchildren: Aria and Dylan Mills and Kadence Hillman; a host of loving cousins, family and friends.

LaVonya Tremese ”Mese” Stewart was born on August 25, 1980 to Wilda Mims and Louis Stewart in Atlanta, Georgia. Mese moved to Americus, Georgia at an early age and was reared by her devoted grandfather, Deacon Tommie Stewart and her great grandmother, Mrs. Mary Emma Stewart.

She graduated from Sumter County Comprehensive High School in 1998. She received her Business Administration Degree from South Georgia Technical College in 2001. Mese was employed with Greg Kirkland Association under the wings of Carolyn “Pat” Simpson. She was later employed with Perry Wellness Center under the wings of Pam Perry, for 10 years until her health failed.

As a young girl, Mese joined the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Larry Sims, where she sang in the church choir. Mese was always full of life and was known by her large smile and her daddy’s eyes. Throughout her life difficulties, she was always in good spirits. Mese believed in the will of God and knew God would take care of her through it all. Mese was preceded in death by her grandparents, Deacon Tommie Stewart, Hattie Bell Stewart, Moses Mims, and Mattie Mims; two uncles, Fred Stewart and Tommie L. Stewart and an aunt, Cheryl Stewart. On Monday, April 18, 2022 at 4:00 a.m., a faithful servant of God peacefully transitioned from this earthly life while at home with her devoted parents, Deacon Louis and Deaconess Zandra Stewart at her bedside. There will be no more pain or sorrow. We will miss her love and her larger-than-life smile

Mr. Otisteen Smith "Soup Bone"

Mr. Otisteen Smith, affectionately known as "Soup Bone" and "Too Sweet", was born October 10, 1952, to the late Olden and Willie L. Smith in Americus, Georgia. He was a 1972 graduate of Americus High School and an active basketball player for Staley High School and Americus High School. One of the main things he loved more than sports was music and singing. He sang in several bands: The Impac, Mighty Night Band, Little Mickey, and the Sticks of Dynamite. He was a legend in his music, always singing in bands and wherever his fun style was in demand. He entertained the crowds with his singing and his James Brown style of dancing.

Otisteen passed away on April 13, 2022, at Phoebe Sumter Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by one brother Olden Smith Jr., his grandparents, Cora Smith of Andersonville, Georgia, Jennie Ingram and Leroy Ingram of Americus, Georgia, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Sonny and Liza Goober of Americus, Georgia.

Mr. Charles Colbert was born on October 12, 1952, in Americus, Georgia to the late Mrs. Bennie Ruth Harris Alford and the late Mr. Otis Alford. He was married to the late Mrs. Bertha Colbert. He was preceded in death by a great grandchild Asiyah Magee. Mr. Colbert died on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

A Private Service was held for Mr. Colbert on Saturday, April 16, 2022.

Mr. Lucious "Granddaddy" Solomon

The Funeral Service for Mr. Lucious Solomon, Jr. of Oglethorpe, Georgia will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Ministries, 510 Morse Avenue, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we ask that you MASK UP and continue to practice social distancing for your protection and for the safety of others.

Mr. Lucious Solomon, Jr. was born August 1, 1925, in Macon County, Georgia to the late Lucious Solomon, Sr. and the late Ella Bell Haugabook Solomon. He acquired his Christian training in various churches. Among those that he loved to attend were First Salem Baptist Church, Zion Grove Baptist Church, Brown Chapel Baptist Church, Magnolia Baptist Church and New Life Ministries. He was very active as he served on the Usher’s Ministry at various churches. He was a dedicated member of New Life Ministries, where he had the honor of being the oldest member of his church.

Lucious, affectionately known by many as “Granddaddy”, enjoyed attending the Riverview Senior Center. He had several hobbies. He loved to go fishing, go shopping, and spend time with his family. Granddaddy loved to dance. His family called him "The Dancing Machine". He retired from the City of Montezuma. Lucious Solomon, Jr. departed this earthly life for life eternal on April 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his siblings: James Solomon, Curtis Solomon, J.W. Solomon, Willie Solomon, Ella Mae Solomon, Katherine Bryant and Lougene Solomon.

 

Precious memories will always remain with his loving family which includes his loving daughter, Mayoma Baldwin of Fort Valley, Georgia; a devoted granddaughter and caregiver for twenty-four years, Rosa Baldwin (Mike) of Oglethorpe, Georgia; two loving granddaughters: Mary Ann Baldwin (Calvin) of Perry, Georgia and Carla Leggett (Darrel) of Montezuma, Georgia; one loving grandson, Adley Belvin of Warner Robins, Georgia; six great grandchildren: Darron, Sabrina, Quintavius, Marquel, Christian and Keontrae; seven great-great-grands: Landen, Marquel Jr., Kemarion, Samaura, Taylen, Karmez and Armahni; his beloved siblings: Coleman Solomon (Betty) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Lottie Mae Solomon of Perry, Georgia, Jimmy Solomon, Sarah Barnes and Annie Margaret Solomon all of Homestead, Florida; a special niece, Louise Rucker; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Marvin “Big Boy” Mathis of Fort Valley, Georgia will be held Monday, April 11, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 507 State University Drive, Fort Valley, Georgia. Interment will follow at Willow Lake Cemetery, Fort Valley, Georgia. Marvin “Big Boy” Mathis was born to James David (J.D.) and Alice Mae Mathis on August 24, 1950, in Montezuma, Georgia, and was reared in Fort Valley, Georgia. Marvin was the twin brother of the late Melvin “Peachy” Mathis. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Marvin graduated from Henry Alexander Hunt High School in the Class 1968 and attended Fort Valley State College now Fort Valley State University.

Marvin served as Assistant Director of Peach County Recreation Department for Fort Valley, Byron, and Powersville, Georgia. Marvin loved working with youth and played a major role in molding young boys’ and girls’ athletic minds and ability. Many of his participants went on to play varsity high school sports, college sports and even professional sports. He also played a major role in securing larger and better athletic fields in Fort Valley, Byron, and Powersville. He loved life!  Big Boy loved his family and friends.  He departed this earthly life on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Houston County Medical Center, Warner Robins, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers: J.D. Mathis (Boy), Walter Mathis (Red), Carl Mathis (Mack), Charlie Mathis (Lynn), Edward Mathis (Moody), and his twin brother, Melvin Mathis (Peachy). 

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his son, Maurice Mathis (Patrice); his granddaughters: Jaila Mathis, London Mathis, and Logan Mathis; grandson, Lathan Mathis; great-grandson, Ryder Redding; and sisters: Mrs. Mildred Houston, Mrs. Eloise Rountree, and Dr. Bettye Clark. He also leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Mr. Carl Edward Green was born February 10, 1961, in Americus, Georgia to the late Sarah Green-Smith and the late Carl Edward Thomas, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a faithful member of Perry Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Green passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Navicent Health Center in Macon, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Green Smith and Carl Edward Thomas, Sr., his grandparents, Mary Lizzie Smith Green, Deacon Cranford Green, J.D. Thomas and his wife, Addie Thomas.

The Graveside Service for Mr. Shanadore Chanell Curry age 61 will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope A.M.E. Church in Smithville, Georgia.

Mr. Shanadore Chanell Curry, a.k.a. “Dody”, was born on February 14,1961, to the parentage of Queen Esther Curry and Lawrence Gay Jr. He was educated in the school system in Flint Michigan and graduated from Dillard High School in Florida. Shanadore relocated to Georgia and lived with his father, stepmother and sisters for a period of time before moving to Atlanta, Georgia. He loved his family and friends. Shanadore’s happiest moments were when both sides of his family came together as one big family. Shanadore married the love of his life, the late Patricia Curry, on February 14, 1985. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Curry, grandparents, and stepmother Gwendolyn Gay.
